Where Christmas Trees Go to Die

I’m always looking for unusual shots.  I’m not sure why I feel compelled to hunt for the quirky; it may be that my subconscious tells me that’s what real artsy fartsy photographers do.  Most of these attempts at haute photographie do little more than raise my wife’s eyebrow.  She generally then pats me on the shoulder and says, “that’s nice–why don’t you take more shots of the kids?”

This shot, however, I like.  We were camping a year or so ago and were out for an evening walk around the bay.  We came across a storage area for the campground and I saw this peculiar clump of lonely Christmas Trees.  Voila!

No?  More shots of the kids?

I love the shots you have of your kids, but I wouldn’t trade those for your creative shots. The duck from the water’s eye view? This? All of those are fantastic and if you only took photos of your kids they wouldn’t be here. It’s always nice to expand your horizon. It makes it interesting.

You never know what you’re going to get.

Thank you Sara–really nice of you to say. I’ll keep hunting for quirky. Truth is, of course, I wouldn’t give it up either–it’s just too much fun. :-)

I agree with Sara, the portraits of your children are lovely, but it’s good to mix it up. I should follow your lead with respect to my own work.

Keep hunting the quirky shots, because this one is fantastic. The clump of Christmas trees, the chain-link fence, the choice of black and white–it all adds up to something very stark visually. It’s unique. It’s different.

But do keep posting pics of the kids, because they make me smile.

Great picture. The chain link fence and trees are incongruous and at the same time perfect together.

    Shoot what you love.

That’s the only rule I like.

And this is pretty cool – very stark. Nice counterpoint to the warmth we associate with Christmas.

    Photography is all about juxtapositions.
