We recently went on a trip to Santa Barbara. I was so excited to travel to a new area for pictures. Sometimes it just gets old shooting in the same old areas around your home. Am I alone here? Perhaps it was all the activities we had planned for the kids but the trip didn’t really pan out photographically. I have a few good shots which I’ll be posting in the coming days but overall I expected more of myself. Santa Barbara is a really interesting place to take pictures and for the most part, I dropped the ball.
Here’s one shot I like. I’m no ornithologist so after several minutes of Google searching I gave up on identifying this bird; I keep wanting to say Egret. Anyone care to help me out on this? Anyway, we were getting ready to leave a restaurant when my kids, good spotters that they are, cried out, “BIRD!” I shot a number of pictures and like this one the best. He’s in good profile and the bright day didn’t blow him out too badly. I prefer the black and white given the building in the background.

I really like the simplicity to this shot, and of course so perfect in black & white.
Thanks Blue! I really appreciate that you stopped by and hope anyone who checks out my site will take a look at your exceptional images.
I love its posture
almost like an old wise man.
A snowy egret perhaps?
Thanks Anny–I couldn’t help myself and looked a bit further last night; I’m pretty sure it’s a Great White Egret or Great Egret. It’s a beautiful bird though.
He looks very distinguished. Great in black and white!
Thanks!
