Every day for my kids is a treasure hunt; they get such joy from finding little gems. There’s a beautiful innocence to their excitement; the world is so new to them and all it’s best bits are yet to be discovered. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an ounce of that enthusiasm again? Wouldn’t it be great to pick up a seed-casing and look with wonder at the star pattern? It would be cool I think, to be so in awe of the find that you just had to share it with your dad. Wouldn’t it be annoying to have Dad make you take time away from treasure-hunting to hold the loot up to the camera until he got just the perfect shot?
I’ve started my own little treasure hunt–it’s a daily-photo project called photodiurnalis. I hope you’ll swing by and check it out. It has in some ways for me, reignited the childhood excitement of discovery. Each day I set out, usually with the simplest of tools (e.g. Fujifilm Finepix x1oo), to find that perfect shot hidden deep within the scene. Sometimes it comes early in the day and others I struggle to find it late into the evening but no matter, each day I’ll take the one I like best and throw it up…I probably could have said that better. I wont lie, some days I come up empty handed but I’m getting a bit of my optimism back. The next cool seed-casing might be just around the corner after all.

fascinating proposal today my friend, love how different levels inside this shot are perfectly balanced, with a spectacular result, this photo is ready to different levels of interpretation,,, for me absolutely perfect
I love this and that very spirit of discovery. It’s the gift children have of seeing something differently – and I think that lends itself very well to photography.

Nice dof and a good idea.
excellent DOF !!!
What an awesome shot. Love the selective focus and tones.
excellent work, idea, love the tones …
Exquisite dof in this. Terrific image!
Yes I remember those youthful days of discovery. I think our decline in the excitement of discovery is in direct relation to the amount of information the adult mind has to retain each day, compounded by added responsibility, stress and worry. But, photography helps alleviate that stress by refocusing our attention on the wonder of the world! Thank goodness :^) I am enjoying your new daily blog.
nice focus
One great things about kids is that they haven’t yet become so “sophisticated” that they lose their sense of wonder. One great thing about adults is that we can respect that and enjoy it. What a great cooperation!
I do enjoy your “dad” shots and what they show about you and your appreciation of your family.
Love the DOF. The perfect family activity, a treasure hunt in re-discovering the world.
Love this!!! Creative and impressive. I love the extreme depth of field use. Bravo!
What a great shot
I’m convinced that one of the “keys” is to wake up each day thinking : “i’m nobody and i know nothing”.
So love your post
Sweet & beautiful b&w : you show us what counts, discovering again and again and being curious of little thing^^
Beautiful bw!
Incredible DOF . Lovely idea .
excellente cette composition !
that’s an amazing and utterly creative photo, wow
Expressive image and excellent DOF!
I really like it
loved the use of shallow DOF here and it looks so cute!
I think that most ‘passionate’ photographers would recognise that feeling – it just needs a little time, a trusty camera and the right light.
And an imaginative approach just like you’ve illustrated helps.
neat shot. you know they actually sell those in potpourri?
Wow… Quelle POV !
Une photo très spectaculaire…
amazing post Christopher .. like the DOF and the toning.
