My kids started school this week; I can scarcely believe that my son is in second grade. It was a minute ago that he fit in the space between my elbow and the tips of my fingers. Now he fends for himself amidst the throngs of students at our local elementary school–he fends and thrives. We attended Parent’s Night and after it was done I walked around the classroom while my wife talked with the teacher and a small group of moms. I came across a display of writing and found my son’s. The teacher started a series of sentences and the kids finished them. Much of it was just what I’d expect from my son.
I am a second grader
I wonder what it would be like to have a pool.
I imagine what it would be like to be in space.
I see green plants.
I hear my alarm clock.
Then I got to one so tender I became a bit tearful…in an entirely manly way I assure you.
I worry about my friends getting hurt.
That’s my sweet, sweet boy; I’m so very proud of him

I immagined a similar reference, good luck, that can be a great schol year, this magnificent portrait emerges a strong family feeling, love and serenity, marvelous work Chris
Oh – this is priceless. You’ve gotta save this bit of writing of his…remind him of it when he gets older and the big boys on the playground bully him around. Both words and image – so very sweet!!
Wonderful post Chris. That would make me tear up too – the good news is that you’re doing something very right. I figured by now it would get easier to watch my kids zip off and disappear into a mass of students in school, but it still tugs at my heart strings.
Nice start to the school year and to life. Keep it up. Nice lighting too!
fantastic portrait and wonerful lights too
excellent photo …. the young man is going to do just fine!
Great moment you have captured here, feels very tender and thoughtful.
Wonderful post Christopher. Your image is touching and insightful, and your son’s compassion for his friends is just what the doctor ordered from a caring and thoughtful dad like you.
Such a lovely portrait. Hopefully he’ll retain his compassion for others as he grows into adulthood (like his father I image.)
A lovely, thoughtful portrait and words to match.
Like father – like son, I’m sure that with the love and care that you are giving him it will be reciprocated later in life, both to you – and his own family.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful portrait of an amazing little boy. He has a deep, thoughtful and kind character already.
You captured such a deep & moving feel, he’s gorgeous in his natural pose, and his dreams rise so sweetly, eyes & lips of a young God, you sure can be proud of such an angel ! Bravo to you & your family*
