Rosebud

Perhaps it’s a life in pediatrics but I love photographing new life. Photographing the bud of a flower gives me more enjoyment than the mature bloom. As I browsed my flower shots I realized that a preponderance were of buds as the primary focus. I get the same feeling taking pictures of kids. While I can appreciate the way life is chronicled by the lines of an adult face, the beautiful brightness and joyful potential of a child’s visage warms my heart.

In processing this bud I desaturated the color to give more attention to the delicate veins and structure of the bud.  I found these details intriguing as I shot but in the image they were lost to the bright red of the petals.  This effect makes the bud seem more organic to me.

Oh no! Thanks for letting me know Kala. Photocrati just updated their theme and there have been some glitches–I’ll see if I can figure it out.
