I grew up around water; many people from the Maritime Provinces of Eastern Canada make their living from the water. While I never earned my keep on a fishing boat in the Atlantic Ocean or Northumberland Strait, I have a deep appreciation for the beauty of water. I think it grew from an early introduction to photography. As a boy it quickly became evident that water can be a beautiful thing to photograph. As I got older and started cutting my teeth in Mr. Petersen’s physics class I learned more about the fascinating reflective/refractive properties of this wonderful life-sustaining stuff we call water. The same body can be completely transformed by viewing it from a different angle or in a different light. It’s forever changing, forever mystifying and forever challenging.
This three-shot series illustrates my fascination with water and how it can appear so different depending on how you look at it. Each image is from the same pond and all were taken within minutes of one another but each is unique. There’s a life lesson in there somewhere I’m sure.
