Morning Fog

I carry my camera with me everywhere in the hopes that I’ll find an interesting shot during my day, a practice the guy at Home Depot thought was kind of pathetic.  No matter, yesterday morning on my way to work I actually came across a scene worth photographing in an unexpected place.  This is the local park in my community, in fact, it’s adjacent to my son’s school.  The fog was thick and welcome after a Southern California summer (hello Fall!!!); it created a nice mood.  There was a man walking his dog just to the left of the photo which I thought would make for an interesting image but he was so polite I couldn’t get him to walk into the frame to “ruin” my shot.  He just sat there and smiled warmly as I waved my hand crazily for him to proceed.  Nice guy–terrible model but nice guy.

    I love the graininess.

Thanks Sheila! As I played with the processing it became clear that the grain added something to the shot. I sometimes worry I’m a little grain-happy though. =]

Thanks Tim! I still wonder how the man and his dog would have looked–pleased with the shot anyway but I think it would have made for an interesting image.

This is lovely! I love it! (And I’m really impressed that you carry your camera everywhere. I’m starting to carry mine more often…but there are still too many moments where I think, “WHY do I not have my camera?!”)

Thanks Christine! I was having too many moments of regret too–got a camera backpack which I find easier to cart around…marginally. =]

Grain works perfectly for this shot. I need to start carrying my camera with me more – good on you for doing so.

Thanks Kala! Several times now I’ve gotten shots I really like just because I travel everywhere with my camera. Not great for posture though. ;-)

Terrific B&W! the idea of a “cold view” is perfectly expressed. PS: How much ISO is it? Thanks! ;)

Thanks Ale–for the comment and for stopping by. I pushed +3 via Silver Efex Pro (100 ISO to 800 ISO) and then tweaked it a bit manually to give the grain effect I was looking for. I can’t recall off the top of my head but I think I reduced the grain a bit and added slightly more contrast. Thanks for asking!

I’m glad you had your camera with you! This one works–even without your ‘almost’ models. I love the ambience and that sensation of solitude.
