Gripping my briefcase like it contains nuclear launch codes I beat my way through throngs of people all scurrying this way and that to reach a gate on time. They are faceless bodies; I make no eye contact. I don’t want to know their story and they don’t want to know mine. I wander aimlessly through the labyrinthine halls of a massive hotel, each room a carbon copy of the other. On reaching my cell I flop onto bleached sheets and stare at the popcorn ceiling like so many other forlorn souls in this place. On another day just like yesterday I meet in a gray antiseptic room where I smile and pitch and schmooze but secretly I ache. I am surrounded by people but I am entirely alone. I long for home so many miles away and more than anything I hope that you will leave the light on for me.

photo is splendid, i like this close up in particular of this bulding and repetition, as always your post is interesting and really well integrates with the photo
A well seen pattern and a picture well captured and processed.
Business trips – how timely, as I leave in a few hours for one. Great image!
trekking your amazing photos!!! thanks for sharing, inspiring people and keep posting!
cheers!
..TREK..
but if the suffer of hotel rooms ends up with such brilliant shots then it must be worth it, isn’t it?
Wonderful i like perspective shot!
I can utterly emphasise with your thoughts Chris, hotels are such souless places. I gave them up and used the web to find B&Bs – even in New York. Where you can meet real people who say “welcome” and mean it.
But I guess as long as you have your camera with you, there’s always the possibility of some useful distraction…and a pic that epitomises hotels…a good one!
So poignantly and beautifully expressed. Traveling for work is so hard – for everyone. For those you leave at home..and those that are on the road. And – what a wonderful image you’ve chosen to express your thoughts.
You’ve captured this scene in such a way that the pattern, light and shadow are observed first and then the reality of the windows afterward…
A classic image for repeating patterns. Excellent framing and composition. Great capture!
There’s nothing light home! Nice image. I like the window with the lamp.
light = like
this is simply beautiful with those patterns!
Ah i love that, so subtle, a single detail that tells the whole story & the rhythm in the pattern is so good, bravo.
Well seen and excellently captured.
Your photo is a perfect example of our cookie cutter society and your vignette proves that we somehow learn to fit neatly into this puzzle of life and still know what our real treasures are. No wonder we ache for them. Thought provoking stuff, Chris. Nicely done.
The positive thing is that you know your loving family will keep the light on for you, and soon you will be welcomed in the arms of home. Your image shows both the impersonal feel of the hotel, and the hope which the light symbolizes. Beautiful and poignant post Chris.
great diagonal pattern, well done
Your words and image give me shivers…. all very sci-fi and too real. Excellent, Christopher, especially the last line..
Very nice!
Awesome image, in the confusion of homogenous similarity, there is always one light on to lead the way. Home is where the heart is.
cool visual. well seen and framed.
worded so succinctly and touching. perfect image.
that creates a wonderful pattern, lovely.
Wonderful rhythm and contrast in this image. Great job seeing.
Great shot to reflect your words.
I really enjoy coming to your blog, I think like everyone else that comes here I can relate to what you say in a lot of the posts, whether it be about present or past life styles. Always there is an emotional attachment that draws us in, I really enjoy my visits here.
Good game and diagonal lines
regards
Wow. That one white lamp really makes this one. Great composition! I love your description, too.
Too bad Alfred Hitchcock is no longer with us. This would make a wonderful opening for one of this movies. Beautifully written…makes me want to read the whole book. Superb image to go with this excellent writing.
Christopher, amazing pattern, and the single lamp makes the shot for me, great!
great capture, perspective …
