Geometrics II (Ellipses)

So the second geometric shape I came across were the ellipses created by the openings of these…well…cylindrical thingamajigs.  I have no idea what they’re used for in construction other than their obvious role as ashtray (see cigarette butt at the far right).

I love ellipses; they seem so useful to me.  When I see an ellipse I can’t help but think of earth slicing through space in an elliptical orbit around our star…which is a good thing you know, given the alternative.
