I should have given you some warning before so dramatically changing Being In Focus but what can I say, I’m a devil-may-care revolutionary. I hope seeing my first 16:9 crop hasn’t discombobulated you too much. This is, in fact, only the second time in over 100 posts I’ve varied from a 3:2 landscape crop. The other shot, a square crop, has actually bothered me for some time: I’ve even considered deleting it but it’s a cute little shot of my daughter so I’ve endured the aberrant dimensions. As I review this paragraph it’s become clear that I may need medication.
Being In Focus is in for a few changes. I’m so impressed by a number of great photoblogs out there; the photography is amazing and very inspirational. Posting a 16:9 image is a tiny step toward thinking differently about my blog and the kinds of images I want to post. I sometimes cringe just a little bit when I look at pictures from a year ago; Being In Focus has improved my photography in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It’s also made me hungry for more. I guess what I’m saying is that I hope in a year I’ll be able to look back at this photograph and cringe a little bit.

We don’t get dramatic skies too often here so I jump on them when I can. Thanks Crash!

Great shot – it looks like the skies are ready to unleash the mother of all storms. Reminds me of the open fields where I grew up in Kentucky when the summer thunderstorms rolled in.

Thanks Michael–Kentucky storms are real storms.

Thank you Olivier!
I like this format. It’s perfect for this big, expansive landscape style. I especially love the dramatic mood of your photograph today. I agree, one of the cool aspects of photo blogging is learning and being inspired by others, no matter what talent or skill level. I feel it has helped my photography too :^)

Startling scenery, and what an amazing landscape. Love the dramatics! Oh, and like the changes you did about the place too. It’s good to see the changes, when they’re positive.

Woaaw … The atmosphere is terrible and brilliant. The landscape is very suitable for this place. The lines of the road and the sky are overwhelming beauty. A very beautiful composition. My compliments Christopher.

Thank you Celine!
Cringing is endemic in photographers Chris – perhaps something to do with the adage – you’re only as good as your next picture.
But this pic is a good one, a great wide perspective and wonderful black sky.

Many thanks George!

Thank you Klaus!
Caring about what we do in photography (and in nearly every endeavor) means that a hard look with a critical eye will come from time-to-time. (Cringing can be good!) It’s like checking a road map; we want to see how to get to our destination. The problem is: there might not be a “SET” destination! We can just enjoy the journey and the change as it comes each day. Best wishes, Christopher.

Thank you very much Phil!
Nice shot Chris! Not sure whether I am ready to remove so many elements out of a picture. Like the saturation above and the emphasis on the sign.
—
Thanks Francis–appreciate that!
What a wonderful image. Love the color..the light..the framing. And – that’s what makes blogging so interesting – to look and see how we change and grow.
