Breakthrough

I suffer from geographic envy.  Whenever I look at photos taken by photographers around world I’m very jealous of the vistas they enjoy.  My neck of the woods has always seemed a bit drab by comparison.  As I’ve been shooting more I’m beginning to realize that my preconceptions were a crutch and that we have some beautiful land around my home.  I’m going to complain less and explore more.

This shot was taken this week and is a canyon about 5 miles from my home.  I was impressed by the light streaming onto the mountains and the overall beauty of the scene.  I am in the process of changing my workflow a bit to include CS5.  Previously I largely used Aperture with plugins.  CS5 is clearly a learning curve so I tend to wimp out and revert to my old ways as I did here.  I think this shot could be made better with Photoshop and I’d appreciate any tips from those of you with greater experience.

This is one of my favorites! Photos of crepuscular rays can often be gimmicky, but this one has a great balance of light, space and landscape. Great job

How the sunbeams wonderfully touch the mountains. And you now: I love great b&w pictures. :)

I had a suspicion considering how many outstanding B&W photos you have on your site. Thanks 10c!
