Blue Skies, Nothing But Blue Skies

If I could have one wish, above all else I wish I could be an optimist. It’s not that I think being an optimist really changes anything à la The Secret; I don’t feel that way at all. It’s just that optimists are so damn happy. I see them walking around with smiles; I hear their random giggles and wonder what it would be like to live life without furrows permanently etched in my forehead. I mean, how do they do it? The world is not safe, not secure, not healthy, and we all pretty much walk around at the edge of a precipice where one misstep or one loose rock could send us all to our doom…there I go again.

So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to get up each day and try my darndest to be slightly less overwhelmed by the gravity of it all. I’m going to take lots of deep cleansing breaths and I’m going to focus on not focusing too much. I’m going to hug my kids and I’m going concentrate most of my effort toward not letting them see me freak out when I inevitably fail miserably to execute the aforementioned plan. They have great smiles and smooth furrow-less foreheads and I very much want to keep it that way. I think I can pull it off; I’m optimistic.

The photo is a good one and does the job of reminding us to “keep looking up.” Oh, I can sympathize with your aspirations on becoming a practicing optimist. It’s a good goal, but I also think it takes “real talent” to walk the middle line. At least that’s easier–for me, at least. :) I enjoyed the post. Have a great week!

A beautifully composed shot that draws the eye in to look up to the blue sky. As to optimism: it’s the darkness in life that drives me to create and search for the beauty. To each his own. :)

Thanks Kala–great way to think about it and I suppose true for me as well! Perhaps without pain I wouldn’t have photography!

Just read your words about being optimistic. I guess the key (photo teaches too) is to be fully in Present time. I practise this (and try to let gravity life its life without me being so concerned ;) Plus, that’s personal, but Optimistic seems the bad word, to “obliged”, forced. I prefer to practise an inner smile breathing reality… Up.
Don’t know if it makes much sense here ;) If you read my About Page and the link that explains why i dived into photo & opened my photoblog, you might understand a lil’bit better. Since that event in my Life, i know better what is serious and what is not. And every lil’sweet thing, presence, sharing, make me… smile ;) See you, and have a sunny day in & out, Christopher*

Thanks so much k@. I’d read your about page before but had missed the link to your personal motivations. Thanks so much for sharing that. If I ever get to Paris (or you to California) we’ll have to have a cup of coffee. Our lives have similarities. I know you’re right about being present now–I know it because with photography I’m able to live in the present. The trick is letting happen to the other moments in my day. I’ll keep trying! :-) Thanks again for taking a moment to share a piece of your life and also all the wonderful photographs you share every day.
