Alma Rosa

There’s a tiny little vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills of Central California that I love. They are tucked far off the highway and nestled amongst trees and rolling hills. They have not chosen the route of so many California wineries to become chic highly designed tourist destinations; they are simple, they are unpretentious and they are all about the wine. Their tasting room is more of a tin-roofed shack than a multimillion dollar display center for Pottery Barn. Inside we found a large wall of used books about wine for tasters to peruse rather than purchase. Outside we found this charming little courtyard complete with a little fountain area that almost…almost…made us feel as though we were sipping wine in Tuscany.

If you’re ever fortunate enough to find yourself in the Santa Rita Hills, do yourself a favor and take a detour to visit the friendly folks at the Alma Rosa Winery and Vineyards; you’ll be happy you did!

That’s exactly the point of view of Jonathan Nossiter’s movie “Mondovino”, which I totally agree. If you have not seen the film, try to find it, you will love it!

I love wines from the Languedoc! I am jealous for so many different reasons! Over the years my wife and I have found some gems from LR that are less expensive than other French regions. Thanks Michael!

I’ll make a point of going there Chris, if and when I get over. But meanwhile “cheers” and “good health” on Thanksgiving Day.
