A Work in Progress

My son is completely crazy about bugs.  You can only imagine how this sits with my wife.  I was visiting Canada a few weeks ago for my Grandfather’s funeral and was pleased to get  a call from my boy.  At some point I happened to mention that there was an extremely big ant crawling around my feet.  The rest of the conversation involved him pushing/prodding/pleading for me to get a picture of the creature with my phone so he could see it.  This was tricky, you see, since it was the phone I was using to talk to him.  Nontraditional perhaps, but a nice moment for me.

This is (I’m pretty sure) an asian spiny-backed spider in the process of making a gorgeous web.  I spent a fair amount of time getting myself into a position that would allow the sun to illuminate the web in a pleasing way.  I like this shot…my son LOVES this shot.
