Every now and again we have one of those perfect evenings that help me forget the more typical blistering heat of Southern California summers. Last night was one of those evenings and we relished every moment of it. During my walk with the kids a refreshing breeze swirled off of the lake and cooled us even as it made the plants dance. The sounds of the wind and wildlife (including my kids) was very peaceful.
With this image I really wanted to capture the liveliness of the breeze and the rustling of the grasses and plants around us. I think it turned out pretty well…if only I could add a soundtrack.
I converted this image to black and white with Silver Efex Pro and then added copper tones to give it back some of the evening warmth.
[You've probably noticed I changed my WordPress theme. While I loved the look and feel of my previous theme it did not allow for much freedom or expandability. I've tried to stay with a simple, photocentric theme that allows some additional flexibility for writing. I hope you like the new look; please let me know what you think!]

Brought back a fond memory of childhood. We used to pick these and tickle each other under the chin!
Beautiful shot.
Thanks Katie–great childhood memorie for me too.
I did love your previous layout but I know what you mean by flexibility. I like this one too, it has lots of room to grow.
Hi Sara,
I really did hate to give it up–it was very clean and simple but pleasing. There really wasn’t any support to speak of and I couldn’t install updates. It made me worry that I’d lose it with the next WordPress update. This new one does give me many more options and still looks quite nice. I can’t decide if I like a single page per blog entry or multiple entries per page. Anyway, I ramble–thanks for the feedback Sara.

Gorgeous tones, light and bokeh.
Thank you Kala!
Hi Chris – your description really brings this photo to life and I can imagine being there. Sounds and looks wonderful.
Thanks Mami–it was a nice evening indeed.
I design websites for fun, and have experienced photo sites are the most difficult… It really depends on what you want to do with it. Just portfolio, or a place to elaborate on your photos?
It’s why my own new website will still be tweaked in the future, I think
This design has some great potential: it shows your pictures in the first place, and after that there’s some room for writing, without it disturbing from the picture.
And: nice and soft picture!
Thanks Rosanne–that’s what I’m going for with the theme. It’s grown on me quite a bit as I’ve customized some things. Thanks for the comment on the photo too!
nice photo. It’s like a autumn scene in Japan.
Thanks Nobu! I’m glad you stopped by.
I really like this photo. What I can’t get over is how well you capture the delicacy of the grass and it’s movement in the breeze.
Thanks so much Christine!
Nice shot. I like it a lot. I always like simple images that just work.
Thanks so much Glen–appreciate that!
